I have to make a really tough decision today. One that I have been putting off for a very long time. Others might think it’s a simple choice, one that is easy to make. Not for me. I have no idea whether to paint the inside or outside of my house. They will both get done, eventually, but I need to decide which gets done first. My entire future probably depends on this decision, so I have to get it right. Maybe if I lay out the facts, and the reasoning why each is important, that will help me pick the right one.
I’ve wanted to get an interior painter around Melbourne to do the inside of my house for years now. My girlfriend really wanted it done too, but she made me feel so pressured. What if I choose the wrong colour? It’s always been a point of contention between us. After years of arguing over whether we would get the interior painting done or not, she’s finally decided that she has had enough. She put forward an ultimatum for me. We either get the inside of the house painted this week, or she’s leaving me and moving to Perth. The decision should be easy to make now, right?
The only problem is that my boss wants to throw his son’s tenth birthday at my house, and he said I was fired if I didn’t do everything in my power to make it perfect. My boss also wants the outside walls of my house to be crimson by the time the party starts, on the weekend. I’d need to get the best exterior painter to help with the project, but that means I probably can’t get an interior painter at the same time. Painters usually have big rivalries with each other, so I doubt they’ll agree to work on the same house at the same time. If only there was a painting business that could do both interior and exterior painting!
So yeah, I basically have to choose between my career and my girlfriend. Wish me luck with that.
