Winter Posted on 1st June 2011
With the weather taking a sudden turn into winter, it can send an unsettling breeze through the comforting patterns of everyday life. It’s been so mild lately, that choosing what to wear has been a joy-just put on whatever you feel like, without thinking about how to keep your body warm.
Then suddenly the chill came and I spent the first cold day in shock with freezing toes, chattering teeth and stiff bones. Not a happy place to be as I tried to remember what kept me warm last winter?
I do love the changes of the seasons. In fact, it’s what I love and celebrate most with the food we cook and eat. But with your wardrobe it can be a little confronting.
I have a friend that freaks out over winter footwear options. Hates the knee-high boot with jeans (for obvious reasons to anyone that spends time with school mums…no offence to myself or anyone else out there), trainers too young, ballet flat too cold. I think the flat(ish) lace up ankle boot like these from APC is definitely the answer (though I still adore wearing trainers & will forever).
Another friend went crazy and bought a super puffy puffa vest. She said she knows it isn’t the most flattering item in her wardrobe, but she’s worn it every day & is happy as Larry.
For me, it’s the search for the perfect fleece top. Soft hoodies and windies that bring back memories of cosy winter days, Golden Breed and 70s surf & skate movies. I found a great hoodie here at Rittenhouse and my much loved Genki one.
My all-time favourite is the Genki windy with little puff sleeves. I don’t think I’m alone there, as I’ve received lots of emails from people asking us to make them again.
The gents out there have also been talking about our simple raglan windy which is that perfect, no fuss vintage looking sweat. But which print to choose, that’s if we put a print on them at all (they are lovely plain too). And what colour? Remember we used to make that amazing"Dick Bruna" green? At that time we had to get it dyed up as no fabric company made the perfect green. I was so delighted to see a similar windy in APC’s current collection-being my favourite label it felt good to know we both have a penchant for classic sweats in green.
Here are some images to bring your minds back and some artwork that we used.
Please comment here or email us your vote for which one you’d like (including colour/print and even size would be useful). We’re going to give away a freebie to one of the lucky customers who takes part too!
Stay warm & genki, C x
