Genki, as a retail store, opened in the city in November 1998 with much excitement and joy. My inspiration was to break away from traditional retail concepts & create a shopping playground, mixing amazing clothes, accessories & cute stuff for your everyday life in a warm & cozy environment.

There was nothing like Genki at the time & Flinders Lane was a long way from the shopping precinct it is today. But people came, from far and wide and loved that there was a shop like Genki where you could feel so genuinely welcome. The Windsor shop followed in 2004 introducing Genki to more new and wonderful people. Japanese for happy, healthy & feeling fine, the Genki shopping experience really made shopping fun.

Almost 11 years later, I decided to close the doors and take a break from bustling world of retail. It was a very tough decision as Genki had become a part of Melbourne life and the bonds with staff and customers had become so close. But it felt like the timing was right to take a break and spend more time with my young family.

Since then, we have continued to offer our tees and classic styles by mail order and now, due to the many requests from our loyal and wonderful customers, we have decided to open this online shop.

We have received emails & letters from all over the world sharing stories about Genki and special purchases from years ago that are still being worn and loved. Our philosophy has always been to create and sell product that is of the highest quality, been made with care, is timeless in style and will last you many years.

Our vision for this website is to continue the Genki philosophy and keep it simple. The “I love tees” and stripey tees are what we are best known for, but we will also offer select Genki classics, a range of accessories and “bits & bobs” that always made Genki an amazing place to shop.
